Lazy Sunday

v
I got this wonderful book at the on-post library book sale on Friday. It is a collection of First Lady Jackie Kennedy's favorite poems.

There are some gorgeous poems and I wanted to post some of my favorites. I haven't done a Sunday Art post in a while, but felt inspired reading this book last night.

Fog
By Carl Sandburg
The fog comes
on little cat feet.
It sits looking
over harbor and city
on silent haunches
and then moves on.

Fireflies In The Garden
By Robert Frost
Here come real stars to fill the upper skies,
And here on earth come emulating flies,
That though they never equal stars in size,
(And they were never really stars at heart)
Achieve at times a very star-like start .
Only, of course, they can't sustain the part.

Hope Is The Thing With Feathers
By Emily Dickinson
Hope is the thing with feathers
That perches in the soul,
And sings the tune without the words,
And never stops at all,

And sweetest in the gale is heard;
And sore must be the storm
That could abash the little bird
That kept so many warm.

I've heard it in the chillest land,
And on the strangest sea;
Yet, never in extremity,
It asked a crumb of me

I think this is just the loveliest book. It would make a wonderful Mother's Day gift too. The poems were compiled by Jackie Kennedy's daughter Caroline and include memories and stories about her parents. I am only part way through and can already tell this will be a book I will  return to over and over throughout the years.

  1. This book looks great! I have been Kennedy obsessed lately. I saw a TLC special about the family and recently went to the 6th Floor Museum. Very interesting family!*
