New Phone!

A few weeks ago, Lane and I decided to make the switch from Verizon to Sprint. For less than we were paying for one smart phone/ data plan, we could both have one. I love that I had cell phone service practically everywhere with Verizon, but was so tired of dealing with their abominable customer service. We went and made the switch yesterday. I am now the proud owner of a Galaxy II. The Galaxy III comes out this weekend so we got them for free, which is the best price ever.

I already downloaded Instagram, and y'all should all come follow me at mrsmollyp.

Here is one of the first pictures which I posted last night. Asha is still teething, so I decided to make her a chicken broth popsicle using the Zoku popsicle maker we got for a wedding present. She loved it, and ate the whole thing. I am still figuring out all the ways to use Instagram, but it is definitely fun.

Happy Friday

I can't believe it is Friday! I thought this week would drag by because I was only working one shift. However, it completely flew by. I am linking up with Lauren at From My Grey Desk for High Five Friday.

1. The concert last night was so fun. We took Asha and she behaved like an angel. She was so sweet to all the kids who ran up wanting to pet and play with her. She lay our on blanket and looked around the whole time. I was so impressed with our little girl!

2. Lane and I had breakfast for dinner. I made my favorite paleo pancakes and raspberry banana smoothies.

3. I had a great shift this morning at work. I did four back to back advising appointments and only felt overwhelmed once. It is really just a matter of learning all the classes and pre-requisites. I won't work for a while because we are heading to Virginia during the 4th of July Block Leave.

4. Asha is such a great sleeper. I was nervous at first about letting her have full rein of the house while we were asleep. However, when we closed the door to our room she was very agitated. We started leaving the door open, and she did GREAT. She sleeps on the ground or in her crate all night. After Lane leaves for work she sometimes jumps into bed with me to snuggle. She isn't really supposed to get on the bed, but she is so cute I can't kick her off.

5. We are making plans to head to Northern Virginia/ D.C for part of the 4th of July holiday. I can't wait to see family and bask in my favorite city in the world. I want to take Asha for a walk around the National Mall and show her off to our friends.

Mountainfest

This week the whole post has been involved in Mountainfest. There are all sorts of activities and competitions. Lane was involved in the Combatives tournament and made it through the first two rounds. He managed to destroy his back, and majorly scrape up his face.

This leads to:

And This

That aspect of Mountainfest is over but the next part is even more fun. Jake Owen is coming to perform tonight in a free concert on post. I am so excited because I haven't ever seen him perform live.

I LOVE country concerts, and can't wait for tonight. There is also going to be a huge fireworks show afterward.

Hello Wednesday

June is flying by! I love taking a moment on Wednesdays to note what I have been obsessing over this week. Pinterest is a never ending source of inspiration, and this week was no exception. I am linking up with Michelle at This Vintage Apple

I love the rustic look of this painted flag. I have some wood left over from my dismantled pallet, and I want to do something like this.

I love the grey and white with touches of gold

I love the color scheme of this room. I have been working on adding more gold touches to our house. We have a lot of white and blue, but I want to add a few more metallic touches.

I am thinking about adding a bit of gold to the antler we have on our bookshelf. I love how this wedding used gilded antlers. It would be such a great balance of rustic and chic which defines a lot of my house.

Cutest Combination

I am pretty certain that there is nothing cuter than soldiers and puppies. It melts my heart to see Lane and Asha together, even more so when he is in uniform. Here are some of my favorite pictures from Pinterest, other sites, as well as Lane with Asha.

Hello Blog World

Teething Puppy
Not My Picture, But Asha Will Also Go For Shoes
Whoo hoo I am back from the land of no computers. Although Asha already tried to chew this current power cord. Apparently puppies teeth like babies. She has more teeth breaking through her gums, which apparently makes her more eager to chew on stuff. I looked up loads of remedies, and the current winner is soaking and then freezing a rag soaked in chicken stock. I make my own stock whenever I make a roast chicken, so I have loads and loads of stock.  If anyone has a recommendation for a teething puppy, I would love to hear all suggestions.

This weekend was pretty relaxing. We helped our friends move on Saturday and Asha got to play with their two Great Danes. I was really nervous that she would be scared since they are so huge. However, she played perfectly happy with them for two hours. She was exhausted when we got home, and behaved better than she has in days.

I barely cooked this weekend because Lane had to cut weight for a Combatives Tournament. I ate scrambled eggs and raspberry smoothies all weekend. The smoothies have been my recent go-to breakfast. I blend a handful of raspberries with a few strawberries, one banana, and a cup of almond milk. It is delicious!

Lane and I have been taking a hard look at our spending habits. We are starting the Dave Ramsey debt program, and really hope to pay everything off in two years. We are also going to try the envelope method for groceries and entertainment. Have any of y'all tried this method?

Temporarily Computer-less

My adorable, lovable, cuddly puppy chewed up my power cord. As a result I only have about six hours of computer time to last until my new cord arrives ( hopefully Monday). I have actually enjoyed not having a computer for the last 24 hours. I have finished my book and started watching a new series on Netflix. I have tried not to get too angry when she chews things. We have moved almost everything in our house to a higher shelf. I want to set her up for success. She has a Nylabone which she loves to chew and when we are around she is very well behaved.

So I will possibly post once or twice when I can steal away Lane's computer. I hope that everyone has a lovely weekend.

I Need A Pintervention

Well Hello Wednesday.
I haven't linked up with Jaime in a few weeks, but I am loving so many things this week.

I Am Loving our sweet puppy Asha. She has so rapidly become such an important part of my life. I love having her run to the door when I get home. She follows me around the house while I clean and is napping by the couch while I write this. She is learning so quickly and makes leaps and bounds every day. We are currently working on house training, and trying to learn that her reflection is not another dog who needs to be investigated. She almost knocked over my floor-length mirror in her conviction that there was another dog in the room.

I Am Loving that I started working. I really like the advising office, and have hopefully helped some students figure out their class schedules.

I Am Loving that Lane's aunt and uncle came for a visit on Sunday. It was so good to see family and take them to the fabulous Tin Pan Galley in Sacket's Harbor.

I Am Loving that my DIY projects have been going so well. I love how my pallet wall art turned out, and have started painting my tray. It is nice to see my finished projects around our house.

I am also inking up with Michelle at The Vintage Apple for Oh How Pinteresting.

I usually have a theme, but today is going to strictly be the last few things which I have pinned.

Paleo "oatmeal" raisin cookies

These are faux oatmeal raisin cookies. It is a Paleo recipe which uses almond flour and other tasty ingredients. I have been on a Paleo baking spree, and I think these are next on my list.

Gorgeous shot

I love this shot. I love her dress, and of course the uniform. Taking engagement pictures was such a fun day, and I find myself wanting to do another session.

I love these two looks from Kate. Honestly, I almost like the casual one more than the super formal white dress. She has such timeless style, and wears item that I would never even consider. She is perfection pretty much all the time.

I think this is such a cool needle-point. I have the big and little dipper tattooed on my feet so this is right up my alley. I don't think I would embroider all of these but I like the idea of doing one or two constellations.

Christmas Cards

So I may have already started thinking about our Christmas Cards. I know it is ridiculous but I love sending cards. I love getting Christmas cards and displaying them in a fun way. We will probably take pictures for the cards in October/ November so it's not completely ridiculous to start planning right?

Love this

I love this simple classic look. I have been really into button downs, and love how they look tucked into jeans.

Hope everyone is having a lovely week. I plan to round mine out with lots of walks with Asha, finishing my DIY tray, and a few short shifts at work.

I Have a Tray Crisis

Firstly, Today I am lucky enough to be guest posting over at La la Love, Learn and Laugh while the fabulous Beverly is getting married! If you want to see more wedding pictures or what I learned from the experience, go take a look.

I got a great deal on this tray when I popped into Salvation Army this weekend. It is one of my favorite places to get trays, even though the wooden ones usually have some horrible design.

I fell in love with the shape. I think it will be perfect once I get a coat on paint on it.

Lane asked the horribly silly question of why I need another tray. We already have them all over the house, but I never met a room that couldn't use more trays. They instantly make any shelf or table look chic by containing all the items in one area. I love the fact that this tray is an octagon instead of the more common rectangle. I am trying to decide how I want to paint it. Here are some of my ideas.

Gold painted tray

I adore the gold chevron pattern on this tray. It was also inspired by the amazing Etsy tray that you can see below.
gold zag tray, $98, so gorgeous
via
Oh my goodness it is so gorgeous. The price tag is a little steep, but I love the pattern. I am definitely going with a white and gold color scheme.

However, I don't know how chevron would look on a octagon tray. I also like the idea of stripes which might look better on a non-rectangle.

Painted tray

I think I will end up painting the outside gold, while the inside will be white. Because the shape is already interesting, I like the idea of keeping it simple. I don't know if I am talented enough to paint stripes or a chevron pattern without making a total mess.

What do y'all think? Will the gold/ white color scheme be enough? Or should I go for it and do stripes or another pattern. Regardless of pattern, the colors I want to use are gold and white.

Pallet DIY

I teased a picture of this DIY last week, but wanted to do a whole post about it. More than a month ago, I got a well worn pallet from behind the PX. All Army Ladies- the very nice people at customer service said I could have one. I considered just going after they closed, but went ahead and asked permission. I would highly recommend people check grocery stores and hardware stores for free pallets. I tore it apart using a combination of a hammer and just twisting the boards until the nails popped out.

I hammered them back together to make a flat surface.

Here are some of my inspirations. They are all from my DIY Board on Pinterest.

I somehow deleted all the pictures during the creation of the pallet. Imagine that I laid all the boards next to one another and laid another two perpendicular. I used 7/8 inch nails to attach the vertical boards to the cross boards. This was really easy and went pretty quickly. The hardest part of the whole process was to take the pallet apart. I used a basic stencil to outline the letters for the poem. I did it in sharpie first, and then went over it in white paint.

My wonderful husband attached hooks to the back and strung wire between them. It is now hanging in our dining room. I love how it turned out.

And just because she is adorable; here are some more pictures of our new puppy.
