Pallet DIY

I teased a picture of this DIY last week, but wanted to do a whole post about it. More than a month ago, I got a well worn pallet from behind the PX. All Army Ladies- the very nice people at customer service said I could have one. I considered just going after they closed, but went ahead and asked permission. I would highly recommend people check grocery stores and hardware stores for free pallets. I tore it apart using a combination of a hammer and just twisting the boards until the nails popped out.

I hammered them back together to make a flat surface.

Here are some of my inspirations. They are all from my DIY Board on Pinterest.

I somehow deleted all the pictures during the creation of the pallet. Imagine that I laid all the boards next to one another and laid another two perpendicular. I used 7/8 inch nails to attach the vertical boards to the cross boards. This was really easy and went pretty quickly. The hardest part of the whole process was to take the pallet apart. I used a basic stencil to outline the letters for the poem. I did it in sharpie first, and then went over it in white paint.

My wonderful husband attached hooks to the back and strung wire between them. It is now hanging in our dining room. I love how it turned out.

And just because she is adorable; here are some more pictures of our new puppy.

  3. I'm so impressed that you made that! I would be totally intimidated to do anything that invovled a hammer and nails, but now you've got me inspired!*
