Southern Cards DIY

Sorry for the terrible picture quality 

I have been waiting for this link-up to come back! Today for Saw It, Pinned It, Did it, I am posting my most recent DIY. I have been these hanging wire frames all over Pinterest, but finally decided to take the plunge when I got these adorable Southern greeting cards from Southern Weddings Magazine. I purchased a square wooden frame from Michaels and just used a staple gun to attach wire to the back of the frame. I purchased tiny little clothes pins as well, and used them to hang the cards. 

I posted this to Instagram recently (username: mrsmollyp) and SW Magazine actually re-posted my picture. I felt a little bit famous.
 This was a really easy project. I think greeting cards can made wonderful art for your home. They tend to be way cheaper than full sized prints. How cute would one of these be for your Christmas cards or wedding invitations?

Sidenote: this Etsy seller is amazing. He created a custom piece for me and did an absolutely incredible job. I  couldn't recommend him enough. 

I have more map art all over the house, and am always looking for more. I saw this beauty on Pinterest and knew I wanted to do something similar.

So I thought for a while that I would get a cork board and cut it into the proper shape. But let's be honest, it has been way to cold to do any work in my garage. Then I realized that I already had the perfect option. 

I bought the Curiosity Shop Cutting Board from Target in January, but hadn't really been using it to chop carrots. It was way too pretty. So I decided to screw some hooks into the back and hang that sucker up as art.

I screwed small hooks into the back of the cutting board and attached hanging wire. This made it really easy to hang. 

My version in it's final form. I am still working on this gallery wall. I hope to have an update this weekend as a part of my DIY-Ing It Through Deployment section.

Valentines Headband

 Hello blogging world =) Next week my friend and I are hosting a DIY Valentine's Party to make valentines to send overseas to our husbands and friends. I have been crafting up a storm, and today I wanted to share one of my creations. 

I wanted to create some sort of head piece for the party. We are encouraging everyone to wear red and pink Valentine's themed outfits. Here is the original pin. It is a girls' headbands, but is sadly no longer available at The Gap. However, it is so easy that I encourage y'all to make your own.

And my creation: 

I made this with a sparkly gold headband from the PX and a glittery heart from the dollar bargain section at Target. I just used hot glue to attach the heart to the headband. This was super easy, and I know it will look awesome in some of the fun themed photos we plan to take. 

I would model it, but I have some seriously gross post-gym hair. Anyway, everything looks much cuter on Asha. 

She was moderately annoyed

Seeing Red

Hello Thursday. This has just been the week of link-ups, and today I am joining Stephanie and Katie

I had seen these EAT signs on Pinterest forever. I finally decided to make my own a while ago. I loved the idea of sticking with a red theme. Here is some of my inspiration.

And here is my version.

I just bought large paper mache letters from Joanne's and painted them red with a glossy red spray paint. They are a really bright fire engine red, but for some reason look much more muted in my pictures. 

I really like how this simple (and cheap) DIY adds to my kitchen. I still have one giant empty wall, but that is one of my deployment projects. 

I hope everyone has a wonderful end of their week. We are heading down to New Jersey for Christmas to see my side of the family. I can't wait to show off Asha to my parents and hang out with my siblings. We are planning a trip to NYC and other fun activities. 

Styling From Pinterest

Thursdays are officially my new favorite blogging day. I love showing off the crafts I have managed to actually accomplish from the thousands of projects I pin each day. How did I do? I love the antler and stacked book combination. I already had some of the gorgeous penguin books. The bottom shelves aren't quite as a close match, but I still love them.

Pinning It Up

I am obsessed with chalkboards. I have two in my house and would happily add ten more. I think my husband might eventually complain. However, he leaves for deployment in a few months and I am expecting a chalkboard explosion. I was really inspired by the "Baby It's Cold Outside" chalkboard. We have a "No Christmas Stuff Till After Thanksgiving Rule" but I figured this could sneak under the radar. I put it up a few weeks ago and just love it.

My handwriting skills are not as good as the Pinterest version, but it still makes me happy. 

I also modified this pin, substituting silver bells for cranberries. I love how the bells coordinate with my "Jingle All The Way" sign. And clearly, I added another chalkboard.

Halloween Inspiration

I am itching to start decorating for Halloween. I already have loads of fall themed decor up, but I am waiting on the pumpkins and cobwebs. I am going to hold off till October 1st, but I am already collecting ideas and DIY projects. I have an awesome frame DIY for this week, but I wanted to show some of ideas I have been kicking around. These can all be found on my Holiday Board on Pinterest. 

This bat chandelier seems little difficult to make, but I love the idea. I want to cut out at least a dozen or so to decorate the front porch. 

I just love the traditional spider webs. I plan on decorating our front porch with loads of spider webs. They are super cheap and a great way to decorate on a budget. 

This is going to be a project for next year. I am going to scoop up loads of fake pumpkins once they go on clearance after Halloween. I love that you can take something like pumpkins and still make them chic and stylish. 

I am a huge fan of waiting until after the holiday and buying decorations to use the following year. I got a fabulous Christmas nutcracker for 90% off last year. I can't wait to break it out this year. 

I would love to hear what y'all's plans are for decorating this year. When is it ok to transition your home decor from fall themed to straight up Halloween? 

Be Our Guest

So it is strange that I got my first taste of how guests should be treated from Beauty and the Beast? ( Hence the title above). I loved seeing all the dishes dance into a flurry getting ready for Belle's supper. I have been doing a lot of entertaining ( which I adore) and that is the theme of my Oh How Pinteresting Link-Up today. As always, this wonderful link-up is hosted by Michelle over at The Vintage Apple. All of these pins are from my Entertaining Board on Pinterest. 

I think this would be sweetest hostess gift. I am also thinking about it for overnight guests. It would be such a pretty display to have these downstairs in a pretty basket. 

This is supposedly the recipe for making your home smell like William Sonoma. It is a mix of rosemary, vanilla and lemon. Y'all, I tried this yesterday and it didn't really work for me. It smelled really good, but it was simmering on the stove for an hour and the scent barely spread through my kitchen. 

This would be another fabulous hostess gift. I love fun dishtowels, and these would be an excellent addition to my collection. 

I have seen these kicking around Pinterest a fair amount. You wrap a cookbook in a dish towel and then push wooden spoons in. I am also thinking about something like this for Mother's Day. 

This is the perfect housewarming gift. A bunch of small things that help a family settle into their new home. I use Myers products and the lavender hand soap is amazing. 

I really want an apron. As of right now I just keep a dish towel over my shoulder for dirty hands. 

Isn't this the fanciest ice cream you have ever seen? I just love this presentation and think it make a fantastic choice for dessert at my next dinner party.

Pinterest Wednesday

Happy Wednesday. I am relieved that my sick puppy is much better today. I think it was whatever the dog equivalent of food poisoning is. She was completely fine after she finished throwing up. We still went to the vet and she is on a course of antibiotics to make sure it isn't a bug. 

I am working today (Hallelujah) but still wanted to link up with the lovely Michelle over at The Vintage Apple  for Oh How Pinteresting.

Asha follows me around the house and lies down in whatever room I happen to be in. When I leave to go do laundry or sit in the living room, she gives me a look of pure disdain for making her move.

I am pretty sure I have pinned something similar to this at least four our five times. I clearly need to get myself to Michaels for some large letters. I already have some red paint, and I think these would look awesome in my kitchen.

Hello Wednesday =)

Clearly the world has gone mad, because I have barely been on Pinterest this week. There has been way too much visiting family, taking evening walks with the puppy, and eating as many blueberries as I possibly can. While all this is blissful, it is not conducive to wasting loads of time on Pinterest. Asha requires us to get up around 6:30 AM to let her out. It has been so nice to take a walk outside while it is still cool and the sun is coming up. Regardless, here are some of the things I have been loving on Pinterest this week. They are all a celebration of lazy summer southern days. Breakfast on the porch while it is still cool outside and walks while the sun goes down.

I hope everyone can get out to the country and take a walk as the sun comes up. Lane and I are heading into D.C today, so I can get my big-city-fix. I am excited for frozen yogurt, Crate and Barrel, and seeing good friends.
