A Very Apple Themed Weekend

This was Lane's last weekend here before he leaves for training, and I wanted to make the most of it. Saturday we loaded up and headed to Mexico, NY to go apple picking. I have a strong attachment to Mexico because it is also where we picked up Asha. Our destination was Behling Orchards to pick crisp delicious apples. The place was packed when we got there, but they had tons of people directing traffic and giving directions.

We picked Courtland, Macintosh, and Honey Crisp apples. The prices are really reasonable and we had a blast. You take a tractor out to the orchard and to get back too. The weather was perfection and I am so glad we didn't wait to go. Besides apples, Behling has honey, pumpkins and loads of crafts and fall activities. Any of my Fort Drum readers should definitely make a trip down there.

Asha was very good and waited in the car (with the windows open) while we were picking apples. She got some apple when we got back as a treat.

Now I have a bowl of apples sitting pretty on my counter.

On Sunday we did our normal get coffee and go to the commissary routine. Then we headed south of town to the Burville Cider Mill. This place has been around for a while and is famous for their cider and cider doughnuts. We got some cider and met some friends at Thompson Park to enjoy the gorgeous weather.

Today is hot again (boo) but I am looking forward to the fall weather. I am already thinking about going to pick out pumpkins and decorating for Halloween.

  1. Fun! I grew up in Michigan where going to an apple orchard was a yearly school field trip. Tons of Apples grow here in Germany, but I've yet to see any orchards. I'm glad y'all got in some good quality time together. (All 3 of you!)*
