Fill in The Blank Friday

Today might be a two-post kinda day. I have two link-ups in which I really want to participate. The first is Fill in the Blank Friday hosted by Lauren at The Little Things We Do. I first started looking at her blog based solely on the ad for an Etsy shop featuring this picture of Where the Wild Things Are inspired children's slippers.

My future children will all run around in these. Anyway, on the Fill in the Blank Friday.

1.  On a scale from 1-10 the frequency with which I get sick is probably a 1. I very rarely get sick which is nice. Most of the times I have been "sick" it has been something not really immune related. I got horrible food poisoning and get horrendous sunburns that leave me with a fever and nausea.

2.   The last time I felt sick was a few weeks ago with food poisoning. It was two days of complete and total misery.

3.  The worst part about being sick is  not feeling normal   because I always think that if I can just pretend that everything is normal the sick feeling will go away.

4. When I am sick I like to be taken care of by It is strange but I am not always such a fan of being taken care of. Lane was wonderful when I had food poisoning, but I really don't get sick enough to have an opinion on who I like to nurse me.

5. Something I do to keep myself healthy is I do so many things for my health. I eat mostly paleo, which means that I don't eat grains or really any processed foods. I truly believe this keeps sickness at bay. I also don't freak out about germs. I wash my hands, but I rarely use hand sanitizer, I think that when you allow your immune system to face small challenges it makes you healthier in the long run.

6. A secret remedy that I use when I'm sick is to drink a TON of water and hot liquids. When I get really sunburned I put ice packs behind my knees and on my elbows. Lane suggested this a few years ago when I was dying on the couch from a head to toe sunburn. It helped so much. I felt my blood cool down and it was heavenly. I also have been interested in trying the frozen aloe I have seen all over Pinterest.

I would need one of these for every one of my bags.

7.  One thing that always makes me feel better when I'm sick is Harry Potter. I watch the movies when I am feeling sad, sick or just in any way bad.

I like this link-up and will probably stop back by next week. Stay tuned for another post later today.

New House Styling

As we get everything unpacked, I have been trying to put the finishing touches on different areas of the house. I really like how some of them have turned out, and others will probably get changed four or five more times.

This is our tea prep area. It is right next to the electric kettle and gets used constantly. I love having everything in one place.

Here are the teas we have on the tray right now. They are all from a tea place in Sackets Harbor. The Moroccan Mint is my favorite and Lane loves the Bonfire Tea.

I have basil and cilantro in mason jars in the window.

The LOVE mugs have moved around a lot, but there new home in on a small table by the garage door. We needed something to hold keys, sun glasses etc. They usually just get dumped on the counter, but I am hoping this will be a better solution.

I am hoping these will work. One has his and her Ray Bans, the others have keys, cell phones and the ever present sunscreen.

All right this is my first attempt at replicating the pin from yesterday.

And the inspiration:

I have that same Chanel book and an antler, may have to replicate

The candle isn't there any more, but I like it so far. I need another coffee table book for the stack. Right now it is the same Chanel book and the book we made of our engagement pictures. I bought a Groupon for three more blurb books, and I think they might all go in the same stack.

As I have been styling different areas, I consider what I would do if I saw a picture of it on Pinterest. If I wouldn't pin my own house, then clearly I haven't hit the mark yet. Is that ridiculous? I have been moving stuff around constantly, and don't see an end in sight.

Pinterest Finds

It seems like years since I have linked up with Michelle for Oh, How Pinteresting over at The Vintage Apple.

This week I am all about Home Decor. I have made some progress with my own house, and all these pins give me the inspiration going forward.

I have no idea why I have been so into pink this week. We have very little pink in our house, but I have been loving it this week. I think this lamp is so cool, and looks gorgeous with the painting.

Love this styling

This styling is gorgeous. The touches of gold are lovely, and that lamp is do die for. The stacks of books are one of my favorite decorating touches.

I love the styling of this entry way. The clear candle sticks and mirror are gorgeous. I also love the basket for holding blankets. I have still been trying to figure out blanket storage for our living room. I have seen some people use ladders. I really like baskets though.

I love stacks of books for coffee tables and shelves. I happen to have that exact Chanel book and an antler so I could replicate this look.

I have been trying to figure out what kind of wreath I want for this summer. I have a 40% off coupon from Michaels burning a hole in my pocket and I think this may be my next project. However, I am not sure how a lavender wreath is going to look with my yellow house.

And for something sweet, I am making these tonight.

I LOVE macaroons and the recipe for these is paleo- friendly. They use honey for a sweetener, which is ok in moderation. I have been on a cooking roll and made my favorite carrot muffins on Monday. There are some great recipes that allow me to have my favorite treats without the sugar and flour.

How amazing would this be for a bridal shower or just a fun celebration. It wound't be too expensive and looks gorgeous.

the kind of feeling

And to end, a sentimental thought about your one true love. I hope everyone has this kind of feeling.

Key Art

I saw this on Pinterest months ago and knew it was something I wanted to make.

This is so easy and sweet. Just use the keys from everywhere you've lived.

There are lots of moves in our future, and I think this is a nice way to remind ourselves of where we have been. So here is  my version.

I had an old frame but had lost the glass and the backing. I have kept it around for a while thinking it would be fun for a craft. It ended up being perfect for this. I covered regular cardboard in burlap and used hot glue to attach it to the back of the frame.

I cut paper into a tag shape and wrote the location for the key on the paper. I just used basic floral wire to create a hook for the key. I just hooked the key through the holes in the burlap. I like this setup because I can move the keys as we add more to our collection.

This was really easy, and I can't wait to hang it up. I haven't finished hanging stuff up yet, but will definitely do a post with the finished product. I love finally being able to complete so many of these DIY's that I have been pinning for MONTHS. I have been working on my mason jar herb garden, which is happily sitting in my kitchen window now.

House Pictures

I wanted to post a few pictures from our unpacking process. We have started settling in, and I hope to post some more recent pictures soon.

Dining room with our amazing Pacifica table. I have used it for a staging area for pictures. You can also see our Lego TIE Fighter on the table.

Framed wedding pictures.

I love my Jasper John's Print.

Oh man I love this piece of furniture. We changed out the knobs and it looks amazing in the breakfast room. The Love mugs we used in the wedding are on top. You can also see the TARDIS on top as well.

Up close picture of the new knobs. They are so much better than the old white ones.

Table with milk glass vases.

Oh lord the kitchen was messy. It is much better now, and I finally feel like everything has a place.

Office with Lane's standing desk.

So these hung on the back of our chairs at the wedding, but now they are mounted in the master bathroom. I think they look really cute. I am always at a loss for how to decorate bathrooms, but I think these are just right.

In use at the wedding.

House from the outside. It is yellow with white shutters and a red door.

My wonderful husband installing our washer and dryer. Mid 20th Century feminists may look down on me for how excited I was, but doing laundry at a Laundromat is no fun at all. I am really happy with our house so far, and can't wait to get everything done. We still need to get a couch, a desk for me, and decide if we want patio furniture.

High Five Friday

The lovely Time Warner Cable guy just left and we are now connected! I had no idea how much I would miss the internet. To celebrate I am linking up with Lauren at From My Grey Desk.

Photobucket

1. Clearly the biggest high five of this week is because I arrived back in New York and instead of a hotel, came back to our gorgeous yellow house. I am completely in love and can't wait to share pictures. Of course, the adapter for my camera is lost somewhere in the sea of boxes. When that is unearthed, I will post pictures.

2. I was able to cook this week. I made short ribs ( recipe here), grilled garlic mustard chicken, burgers, and   tortilla- less fajitas. I can't wait to start trying more recipes.

3. I named our wireless network Winterfell. All Game of Thrones fans should be suitably amused.

4. I was able to get back into the gym this week and didn't fail miserably. I had started to miss working out with Lane while I was in D.C/Atlanta. My legs are dying today due to squats, but I am determined to still go forward with today's workout.

5. Seeing Lane again. Two weeks used to be nothing during the height of our long distance relationship days ( which lasted for five years), but I have been so spoiled since Ranger School. I have loved every minute of spending this week together and unpacking our house.

House Update

This lack of internet thing is killing me. We have our appointment with Time Warner on Friday and HOPEFULLY we will be all set to go. I am completely in love with the house and can't wait to get everything else unpacked.

I hit the ground running upon my return to NY on Saturday, and have been trying to get as much done as possible before I start teaching this summer. Months ago I posted that my goal was to be employed by May. Well, once I turn in my paperwork to HR this week I will have met my goal. I am so excited to start this adventure and finally have a job again.

I am going to try to get some pictures of the house uploaded this week. The living room color scheme may have slightly changed. I hung up my Jasper John's painting and the tone of the room has taken a turn toward the red/yellows/blues of the painting. It's funny, once I noticed this color pattern I started to see it all over my Pinterest boards. Here are some pins that represent the new possible direction of the living room. We still have white walls and beige carpet so the brightness of the painting is somewhat muted.

These are from my Lovely Pinterest board.

Love bright flowers

I love the bright colors against the muted background. I have hung up this picture of Lane and I from our Day-After shoot and think it works perfectly. These are some of my favorite pictures because the light is just unbelievable.

I think that I may keep the navy pillows color scheme, but also add a few more touches of yellow and red to the room. Our kitchen and breakfast room are almost done and I can't wait to get the rest of the house set up too.

I will probably only post once or twice between now and Friday. There is internet at the Community Center, but the lovely people here are going to think I have moved in and set up house.
