Weekend Happenings

Can't believe this weekend is almost over. We both have tomorrow off, but it will be mostly spent with Lane finishing his tattoo. As much fun as that is, not sure if counts as relaxing.
We went to a hockey game, which was only ok. Our high school team was insanely good, so watching the semi-pro's was only somewhat impressive. The best part of the entire evening was watching the four year old's play during the breaks

We went to see Skyfall on Saturday. I have to say, it was awesome. Substantially better than Quantum of Solace. I want an Aston Martin for Christmas.

Sunday, we met up with some friends and took some pictures for our Christmas cards. I am going to include more of our outtakes in tomorrow' post, but I really liked this kiss-y picture. Asha was shockingly good for pictures. She sat and looked at the camera fairly predictably. We have a few pictures that I absolutely love.
I am thinking about using Shutterfly to make our pictures, since with the current 40% off it is cheaper than most other options. I know they did free cards for bloggers last year. Anyone know how you get signed up for that? I am planning to order them this week so they are ready to go out around Thanksgiving. Last year we mailed them out on Christmas Day. I am trying to be more on my game this year.

It his 71 degrees today here at Fort Drum. I know climate change is a horrible destructive thing, but man I am loving these warmer days.

Hope you all had a wonderful weekend.

Happy Happy Friday

I am thrilled that Friday has finally arrived. Last weekend was right after Lane got back, and we didn't do much besides move from the kitchen to the couch and back to the kitchen. As much fun as that was, we are going to be a little more social tonight. We are going to a hockey game tonight, and seeing Sky Fall tomorrow.

To celebrate the wonder that is Friday, I am linking up with Lauren at The Little Things We Do for Fill In The Blank Friday.

1.  I like curling up with a book and a giant mug of tea. Taking Asha to the dog park and watching her play with all her puppy friends.

2.  A life goal of mine is to have a life I am proud of. I want to leave the world better than I found it. I love that my current job means I get to do that every day.

3.  The last thing you would ever expect me to like (even though I secretly do) is nerdy tv and  books. I like to say that my husband and I are secret nerds. I love Lord of the Rings, Song of Ice and Fire, Doctor Who, and have started watching Star Trek. My husband has one LOTR tattoo and one Game of Thrones tattoo.

4. Some wise words that I love are you must live life like a great adventure. Living any other way will only lead to regrets. My grandfather told me this right before I left for boarding school. I was terrified, but the idea that it all has to be one big adventure was very comforting.

5. Most mornings you will find me  walking Asha and trying to get out the door to work. If I have the morning off, I will be drinking tea, blogging, and watching morning tv.
I need more hot men on my blog

6. Right now I am super into Sons of Anarchy. My husband finally convinced me to start watching. I think what he really wants is a motorcycle. He thinks watching all the sexy men on bikes will convince me he should have one.

7.  Right now I am super over the sun setting at 4:00 in the afternoon.

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend

I Love Democracy

I am linking up with the lovely mama-to-be Jaime for What I Am Loving Wednesday.

1. I am loving democracy in action. I love exercising the rights that so many fought so hard for. Less than 100 years ago women didn't even have the right to vote. Yesterday I waltzed into my local polling place, cast my ballot, and did my part for democracy.

2. I am loving the Georgia voter stickers. I liked voting in NY, but I have to say that I really miss those adorable stickers.

3. I am loving my new paleo macaroon recipe. I used this recipe and cut the amount of honey in half. They were delicious, but did fall apart pretty easily. I enjoyed them with tea in my favorite Georgetown mug.

4. Back to loving democracy. I loved watching the returns come in last night. My best friend and I have very different political views, and I enjoyed texting back and forth with her all night. I had three different websites up, as well as watching CBS. ( Also can we talk about how much easier it is to get Instagram pics now that they are all on your profile)

5. I am in love with Malia Obama's outfit from last night. I love that cobalt blue skirt with the black top and pop of pink.

I hope everyone had a wonderful election day and now on to the rest of the week. I am a little tired from staying up so late, but ready to jump back into work and bunco with other military spouses tonight.

Happy Election Day

To all my American readers, Happy Election Day!
As a political science teacher, this is basically my version of Christmas. I plan to stay up until the wee hours of the morning, obsessing over every exit poll and generally driving my husband crazy. I normally try to avoid  talking extensively about political stuff with him, but I get a free pass on Election Day.

work it, girl!

This link will help you find your polling place if you have any questions. Both of the campaigns have election lawyers, so if you ever feel like you were prevented from voting get in touch with them. Here is another source for legal help concerning any problems with voting. There have been so many crazy lawsuits surrounding voting, make sure you demand your right to vote. Even if you don't have the right I.D, you can usually still fill out a provisional ballet. I know there are plenty of misinformation attempts going on. I heard about a robo-call going out in Virginia that was telling people to vote on Thursday. Don't let stupid political games get in way of exercising your right to vote.

I really believe that voting is the gateway to more civic engagement. I sincerely hope that as many of my lovely readers as possible will get out and vote. I am not even going to mention my own political beliefs, I just want people to understand the wonderful privilege we have in open, free elections.

Well Hello There

Hi blogging world =)
It has been almost a week since I last blogged. I am not quite sure what happened, except that with Lane coming back and my class ramping up, life has been a little crazy. Lane returned on Halloween, so I briefly abandoned the trick or treaters and headed over to pick him up. We finished the night handing out candy and relaxing.
My students had their first test on Thursday. It felt totally bizarre to be on the other side of the desk. I think they did ok, and I know a few of them knocked it out of the park.

This weekend two of our Fort Drum friends had birthdays. One of the parties on Saturday night was a masquerade theme. We got all dressed up and went on the hunt for masks on Saturday afternoon.
Lane has been gone for a month and a half, and I think Asha got used to just having me here. Whatever the reason, she has been absolutely horrible the last few days. She got a pen off the counter and broke it open over the carpet. There is now a lovely ink stain on our carpet.

I really want to try to be better about blogging this week. However, I am also trying to balance time on the computer with time for Lane. I don't really want to be furiously typing while he and I spend time together at night. I know once deployment rolls around I will have lots more time for blogging. Until then, y'all might see me a little less.

Not So Strong Today

Lane was supposed to return today, but due to the storm his flight was cancelled. Now, I completely understand that these things happen. However, they could have easily flown out earlier and avoided the storm. Whose call this would have been is a mystery. I try to always be really positive and upbeat. I want Lane to feel that he doesn't ever have to worry about me. Not so much today. Today I just want my husband home. I don't want to hand out candy by myself tomorrow night. I just want to stamp my feet and throw a fit until he is home. Clearly this will accomplish nothing, but I am just so frustrated. When he is gone and there is a point, like at NTC or deployment, I can rationalize his absence and at least try to stay positive. When there is absolutely no good reason for him not to be home, I can't have the same perspective.

Not the happiest blog/blogger today.

Come On Sandy

via
So unless you are living under a rock, I am sure you have heard about the giant storm that is about to land on the northeastern coast. Fort Drum is expected to get hit with some pretty serious wind and rain which could turn into snow if it gets cold enough. Now your husband being gone is never fun, but him being gone when we might lose power for an extended period of time is rough. I consider myself a pretty tough girl, but I am a little nervous about the upcoming week. All of post is shutting down at 3:00 and schools are already out.

Have a little Etta James Stormy Weather for your hurricane soundtrack

My plans include; tomato soup, the new Percy Jackson book Mark of Athena, lesson plans, cuddling with Asha, and movies while we still have power. Luckily we have a gas stove and I can still cook even if we lose power.

Please be safe to all my wonderful readers and family. My grandmother was already evacuated from the Jersey Shore. I know my D.C friends are prepared. By prepared I mean they have ten bottles of wine and plan to drink through the entire thing =).
