Office Wear

UPDATE: I had all sorts of aspirations of taking outfit pictures and adding to this post. However, my dog woke up puking and has been sick all day. Instead of blogging, I sat at the vet for three hours. I should return to my normal blogging schedule tomorrow.

My grown-up clothes have been in plastic bins for almost a year. Although I adored working at Barnes and Noble, it didn't require dressing up. I've missed my pencil skirts and loafers. As a professor and academic adviser, I get to dress up a little bit more. I love getting dressed up. Even in my daily life I tend more toward skirts than jeans. Here are some of the looks that are inspiring my office wear this summer. They are all from my Looks I Love Board on Pinterest.

One of my favorite looks is a sheath dress topped my a blazer.
Love this look

I am absurdly long waisted, so I really like high-waisted skirts that even out my proportions.

Lovely mixing patterns

I also love to use belts to define my waist over sweaters and blouses.

Back Up North

Lane and I returned to New York Sunday night. The drive back was pretty easy, and Asha was very well behaved. In all honesty, it was exhausting to have her at my in-laws' house. We have a fenced in yard and can leave the door open all day. Their neighbors in Virginia have horses, sheep, not to mention their own alpacas. Asha got stepped on by an alpaca and almost ran into  pasture of horses. She also did her business on their carpet at least three times. I know she is just a baby, but man it was stressful. She can also open screen doors, which does not lend itself to keeping her un-squashed.

I've realized that 99% of my pictures are of Asha. So for your daily quotient of adorable husky, here she is:

Lane and Asha like to cuddle. It is pretty much the cutest thing ever.  Her pose is not the most lady-like in the last picture, I apologize.

Asha is generally great in the car. She just curls up and sleeps most of the time. She has also gotten better at staying in her crate.

The air conditioning stopped working at Lane's parents' house on Saturday night. Asha discovered that sitting in front of the fan was the best place to be.

Our night in D.C was broiling hot. Barnes and Noble allows dogs to come into the store as long as you don't go into the cafe area. Asha discovered the cool tile and was in heaven. She passed out and didn't move for our entire stay in the store.

Man I love the Virginia countryside. We took Asha for walks down the gravel road several times.

I am excited to get back to work and start lesson planning for my classes. I start teaching in a month and a half which is terrifying.

Heading Home

It has been a wonderful week. We are heading back to New York today, and I am sad to be leaving Virginia. It was lovely to visit so many friends and family. We made it down to Lexington as well as Blacksburg. Asha does not like the heat and we spent a significant amount of time trying to find places which would allow a dog inside. Here are a few pictures from our trip.

I have been trying to make an effort to wear my wedding shoes more often. They were way too expensive to only wear once. They are very comfortable and look great with a variety of different outfits. If any readers are looking for great wedding flats, I highly recommend the Kate Spade Florina.

Asha was stepped on by one of Lane's mom's alpacas. She was very unhappy and her whines break my heart. The air conditioning stopped working on Saturday, and it was sweltering. Despite being born and raised in Georgia, these few months in New York have removed all my tolerance for humidity.

I have missed the blogging world these last few days. I promise I will be better about responding to comments and actually commenting myself. I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend.

Hello Wednesday =)

Clearly the world has gone mad, because I have barely been on Pinterest this week. There has been way too much visiting family, taking evening walks with the puppy, and eating as many blueberries as I possibly can. While all this is blissful, it is not conducive to wasting loads of time on Pinterest. Asha requires us to get up around 6:30 AM to let her out. It has been so nice to take a walk outside while it is still cool and the sun is coming up. Regardless, here are some of the things I have been loving on Pinterest this week. They are all a celebration of lazy summer southern days. Breakfast on the porch while it is still cool outside and walks while the sun goes down.

I hope everyone can get out to the country and take a walk as the sun comes up. Lane and I are heading into D.C today, so I can get my big-city-fix. I am excited for frozen yogurt, Crate and Barrel, and seeing good friends.

Back South Of The Mason Dixon

Have I ever mentioned how much I love Virginia? I might have been born and raised in Georgia, but man I love the Commonwealth. Lane and I arrived Sunday afternoon at his parents' house in Northern Virginia. We are going to hang out here for a few days before making a loop around D.C, Lexington, and Blacksburg to visit family and friends.

On Monday we headed out Maryland so that Lane's mom could go skydiving for the first time. She had a blast and immediately wanted to go again.

Hope everyone has a wonderful week.

His and Hers

People always say that over time spouses start to dress more like one another. I never thought this would happen with Lane and I. However, I recently noticed that we have several items in common.

His and Her Converse and His and Her New Balance Minimus.

He actually grabbed my shoes for PT one day. Hilarity ensued.

We have the same phone too. Luckily they are different colors.

We are both Moleskin addicts. The four on the right are my date book, meal planning notebook, workout log, and general notebook. He just has the one on the right ( Clearly not as addicted as me).

We both rock Ray-bans as well. I have had my Wayfarers for years but he prefers aviators.

Do y'all find that over time you start to pick up the same habits and items as your spouses?

Road Trip

Lane, Asha and I are heading down to Virginia for the last week of Block Leave. I am so excited to visit family, although this crazy heat wave makes me a little nervous. I have a puppy who is designed for sub-freezing temperatures. 114 degrees is not friendly for a Siberian Husky. I am planning on baby pools full of ice.

Here are some pictures which celebrate Road Trips as well as all things concerning the Commonwealth.
