Last weekend in Columbus! I had a blast all weekend. Friday was the only day without rain, so we decided to rent bikes and bike along the River Walk. We rode down to the Infantry Museum which was really fun. Silly Molly didn't eat before hand, so around mile 17 I started to get a little woozy. I also get belligerent and illogical when I am really tired. Lane had to convince me that biking four blocks would result in food faster than walking. Poor Guy.

Saturday was terrible weather. I know that Virginia got hit with a ton of snow, but we just got rain down here. We went on a Redbox moving renting spree. We watched The Debt, Warrior, and Midnight in Paris. All three were great, but Midnight in Paris was by far my favorite.
Sunday we went to the shooting range with some friends. Lane took a video of me shooting, which I think he plans to horrify my strictly anti-gun mother with this week. Last night in Columbus tonight, tomorrow we are off to Atlanta before we start the drive north.

You have to love it. 

So I have been thinking that my Sunday posts will be art that I love. Poems, songs, paintings, anything that strikes my fancy. 

I posted a link to this during Pinterest Wednesday, but I wanted to post it again in its entirety. It is one of the most beautiful descriptions of marriage I have ever found. It makes me tear up every time. 

The Bravest and Most Beautiful Affair

How she said that the bravest love is wildly faithful and it falls hard again every morning. How it puts the toilet seat down and the cap on the toothpaste and winks for those already-won eyes. It knows what we seek may be found in what we already have. And there can always be this — the allure of the vows.

I feel his skin, his hand around me in sleep. We sleep like this this night after years of nights, light of the moon stretching long across our room, the pillows, us growing old in this romanced ordinary. It’s grace and fresh gratitude that can make us strong enough to marvel in the seeming monotony of anything. And the happily married have eyes that look long enough to make the familiar new. When he comes up behind me and hugs me at the stove, I still whisper it to him: “I still can’t really believe I get to be married to you.” Grandma washed Grandpa’s underwear for fifty six years, and she said it was always so good.

Warm it falls on the nape of my neck, his sleep breath, close. I press closer. There’s this beautiful drama’s in a long faithfulness and aged love might be heroic. God knows the passion of a covenant.

His stubble rubs my shoulder.

He makes me, shape and rib, and my head’s full of how we’ve known each other and how he still is mystery and how the want is still all his. We sleep in matrimony and it is holy —

us just laying together here in a breath of forever…

DIY Projects

I have an endless list of projects to start once we are settled in New York. However, a few of them are at the very top of the list.

1. New knobs for my copper pie safe.

We bought an amazing pie safe at a thrift mall in Columbus. Our camera is in for repairs so I don't have a picture, but this is roughly what it looks like.

The copper is much brighter than the above image, but the construction is similar. The only draw back is that it has bright white ceramic knobs. This is such an easy fix, and I want to find new ones asap. Right now I thinking of these from anthropologie:

I love them, but not sure if I want to spend that much just on knobs.

2. Kitchen Herb Garden

I love the idea of growing some of my own herbs right in my kitchen. I have seen loads of people use mason jars to grow small amounts, and I think it would be a nice touch. Here are some examples I am loving this week. All can be sourced on my Kitchen board on Pinterest. 

3. Painting bookshelves. 

I have three bookshelves that are in desperate need of paint. One is blond wood and pretty small. Because this is the lightest, I am thinking of painting it a pewter color, similar to paint used on this chest of drawers.

She used Sherwin Williams Pewter Cast for the grey/pewter area of the dresser. 

My second bookshelf is black, tall and skinny. This is the only one of the shelves with backing, and I have been eager to try something like this.

I think the gold looks amazing, and I wouldn't have to do anything to the rest of the bookshelf. Luckily it is Ikea so I can just take it apart, paint it, and put it back together.

My third bookshelf project will probably be the most difficult. I have this old set of shelves from my parents and it is laminated dark wood. I love the style of it, but it does not have the prettiest color. 

Still suffering from a lack of camera, but here is a close approximation.

It is not nearly as nice as the one above, but the style is similar. I have been loving emerald green recently, and am thinking about just going for it with this bookshelf.

Friday Loves

I am so excited for the weekend. Last week was my last at work so this whole week has been like the weekend. However, Lane has a four day weekend so now at least I have company. I am linking up with From My Grey Desk for High Five Friday.

So here are five of my favorite things from this week.

1. All of our pcs paperwork has been turned in with very few problems. We get his leave form back on Tuesday morning, he signs out on Wednesday and we are headed north. I am so thankful that this process has gone smoothly. Lane has been completely on top of things and all I've had to do is pack.

2. This is more looking forward to this weekend, but I am so psyched for Downton Abbey on Sunday. I am obsessed with this show. I had a wonderful Monday morning this week of making pancakes and watching Sunday's episode while Lane was at work.

3. Steven Tyler and Carrie Underwood's Duet on CMT's Crossroads. I love both of these songs, and they were awesome together.

4. My incredible birthday present from Lane. A print of Jasper John's America . I am in love and it will look amazing once we hang it up.

5. And finally the carrot muffins I made for Lane and I to snack on last night. They are gluten and sugar free but still amazing.

Worst part of this week? After one year of having the most gorgeous license picture in my entire life, I got my new license in the mail. Hello puffy face and weird hair.

Michael Buble Makes It All Better

My apartment is rapidly filling with piles of boxes, ready to be loaded onto the truck on TUESDAY! By the end of next week I will be (hopefully) in New York. I can't wait to finally get up there and get everything sorted.

I have been so spoiled with the warm Georgia winter, this is going to be quite the shock.

During all the packing madness, my Michael Buble Pandora station has been my background music. It is in that spirit that I chose this song for Good Night Moon's What's Your Song Link-Up. This is my first time doing this particular link-up and I thought this song was appropriate. I am sad to be leaving my home state, and Georgia On My Mind has always been one of my favorite songs. My family and bridesmaids walked down the aisle to it, and it was also considered for my Father-Daughter Dance. I love Ray Charles, but Michael Buble does a pretty good job too.

Pinterest Pretties

Valentines Day was lovely and low key. We went out to see a showing of This Means War and I loved it. Chris Pine and Tom Hardy are gorgeous and Chelsea Handler was really funny.

 Now it is time for Pinterest Wednesday and I am linking up with The Vintage Apple. My theme this week is jewelry. I don't wear a lot of jewelry, but Pinterest provides so many gorgeous examples I may change my ways. I own a few of these pieces, one is my wedding ring, but all would be welcome in my jewelry box. There is also a high level of monogram pieces, readers beware.

I love chunky rose gold watches. I have been lusting after the Michael Kors line for a while. They are so chic and look great with almost any outfit. I love that they are a heavier watch which can masculine, but the light color makes them distinctly feminine.

I have an M and L necklace that I wear pretty much every day. I love the delicate gold circles. I have given these as engagement gifts to friends as well as for birthdays and Christmas.

Clearly I have a monogram problem. India Hicks' jewelry is gorgeous and a unique take on the standard monogram necklace. I love how the letters are a little different and it is not always apparent that the charm is made up of letters.

Oh hello wedding ring. Oh my goodness I am obsessed with this ring. It is tiny and delicate and just gorgeous. The top bit is slightly wider and fits perfectly with my engagement ring. Whenever I look down I can see "Loved" which is quite a nice boost during the day. The people at St. Kilda were wonderful to work with and I love all their jewelry.

 Catbird makes the most gorgeous tiny rings with letters or other symbols. I can imagine getting a few of these for your children's names. They are stackable and absolutely perfect.

Happy Wednesday to all. I am spending the day making carrot muffins and packing up most of my kitchen. The move is inching closer! Housing was shockingly lovely on the phone today, which makes me a little nervous for the sure disaster that must be around the corner.

Happy Valentines Day! We are seeing This Means War today for a matinee and making dinner at home. Neither of us is particularly into Valentines Day, and going to a movie may be the most we have ever done. My birthday is right before, and I am all celebrated out by the 14th.

We have been trying to hit all of our favorite places in Columbus before we leave. We had lunch at Country's today, and visited our favorite coffee shop; Columbus Coffee Company. Boxes are starting to pile up against the walls. I feel pretty confident about this move, probably because we only have a few room's worth of furniture. I haven't been here that long but have most certainly grown attached to certain places. I love the Barnes and Noble here, and working there for the last few months has been such a blessing.

Unlike leaving Atlanta, where I know I will always come back to visit, I am not sure the next time I will be in Columbus. I was dreading living here, but was pleasantly surprised. The weather is wonderful of course, and I will take 80 degrees in January any day. I'm sure it will be even more appreciated when I am freezing in the NY winter.
